LET
ME TRY TO PARAPHRASE THIS WOLOF SAYING: when God shares out three things
between three people, He gives two to one, one to the second and asks
the third to follow and pick hold of that which will possibly drop
along.
IT ORIGINALLY GOES AS: ‘Yallah buuy saidalleh nyetti
affaire si diganteh nyetti nit, dey jox nyaar kena, jox benna kena,
munay ki si dess “yow toppa len, lu rot nga forr”’
The gist in this is:
Whereas everyone has the prospect to be well-off, God still maintains a
balance so that our conditions won’t go berserk. He will make some to
be born into privileged circumstances; some will become wealthy due to
their hard work and intelligence, some out of pure luck or through their
courteous association and bond with prominent people.
Some will certainly do tasks harder than you can imagine and even be
very subservient in it, yet have their progress slowed down; and do you
know why...?
…because they’re depending and counting on folks
who want more and more than what they really need; so what “possibly
will drop along” may not sort them out. I have seen some take colossal
risks or even become contemporary Robin Hoods, just so they can get out
of their inherited social position….BUT at the end of the day, come what
may, “What's meant to be will always find a way”
