When you take people to task for their undisciplined state of mind, or
when they have their upsetting manners called to order, they tend to pick up
the wrong end of it; in fact the one who sets out to correct their waywardness
is labeled disrespectful
Me, no matter how old you are, if you do not have that sense of
obedience and respect for expected values, I will demand it from you and that’s
no disrespect. Discipline is all about being able to truly care about others
around you; it is about respecting yourself and polishing your ability to tell
your ego “NO! That’s not right”.
Wherever you are and in whatever you are in, your ability to operate by
principle rather than desire is of great consequence. Never let your
excitements hinder your restraint; if you’re in quest of a service and you’re
supposed to stand in line to be served, then queue like everyone else; if you
borrow don’t keep it; say please and thank you even if you’re someone of
authority…
…If you engage in things of public interest, you may have your choice,
but also respect the choices of others; don’t leave the toilet unflushed;
uphold good eating manners and when you use up that which is for everyone,
replenish it; when you open the door to go in, shut the one behind you; don’t
litter when you can appropriately get rid of it….
….as a matter of fact, the list can’t end, but all I want to say is
that ‘Jolof’ would’ve been even more wonderful if each of us can stop going up
against the ideals of etiquette, good manners, comportment and protocol…
