Like I expect you to expect, some
of your friends will act like that. They’ll put down the things you like or
make them seem tasteless simply because they can't have it. If they’re
interested in your career, or when they fancy your swag or have a crush on your
lady or man, they’ll hide their jealousy by acting as if they don't give a
fuck, knowing they don’t have what it takes to vie.
When I was a kid, I was a
sneaker-head and I owned an exciting collection of elite kicks. But I observed
that each time I have a new pair, I had some friends who were only interested
in the price, so that when I tell them, they’ll act appalled and say it’s a
waste. In the end and perhaps foolishly, I had to lower my taste and settle for
Nyamba (plastic sandals); because that way I’ll fit in and I wouldn’t have to
wear any substandard replica.
Today that we’re all grown and
can afford our basics, I can confirm that all those friends that caused my loss
of enthusiasm in sneakers are now so amnesic that they don’t buy or wear
anything that is not worth a reckless amount of money. In fact some of them now
flaunt the labels they wear for all to see. I wonder who’s wasteful now.
‘NDEKEH NYOM DENJ YAROO WON NDIK
YORRUNJ’
But that’s what's up. If you’re so
clueless or foolish like I was, people’s opinion of you will always matter, but
rest assured that you’ll in time be more disappointed by what you didn't do
because of them. So if you ask me, learn from my shoe experience and give every
jealous critic the slip. Find a way away from their sour attitude and have a
blessed week ahead!
