Classism will remain a present continuous phenomenon until we stop
acting as if nothing great can come from a modest beginning, and stop reminding
others of their humble beginnings; until it is clear that not everyone has to
dress like a corporate executive in order to command respect; until we stop
relegating others because of the company they keep or the people they roll
with; until we stop liking things or supporting causes only when we know or
admire the people involved, and until our invitations to social events and
ceremonies are no longer anchored in whose presence is espected to be more
lucrative.
Classism will not pass away until comfort is no longer seen as the
birthright of the supposed high birth; until we stop that indiscriminate
imposition of our individual ideals on everyone regardless; until we stop
listening to or ignoring others because of who they are or who they know and
focus on what they know and what they have to say - and finally, until those
who are employed to serve do just that and stop acting as if they're doing the
rest of humankind a favour.
