If what others think of you is what is making you
to lose heart, or if those sins that you’re rumoured to have committed (except
for unrepented idolatry or polytheism) are considered a clearance to hell,
then not only you, but even those passing that judgement are going to hell,
because we’re all sinners.
It’s so unfortunate that even though believers are
encouraged not to despair in the mercy of God, amongst us are very sad ones whose
thing is to pass mini judgements ahead of God’s Judgement.
Me, I am not a scholar and I am not pretending
to be one, but I believe that as long as you’re not a flamboyant sinner and you
do not boast about your misdeeds or try to mask yours by digging up the dirty
secrets of others, the rest of judgement is between you and God.
Thank God if your sins aren’t founded on a desire
to spread impiety. Thank God if you don’t seek to legitimise your excesses or
seek to expose or judge the ways others, for only God knows best. Thank
God if you’re able to feel some degree of guilt each time you become conscious
of your sins and if you don’t blatantly cling on to sinfulness.
Thank God if you’re not in the habit of trying
to justify your corrupt practices. Thank God if you can differentiate between a
condemnation and a gentle reminder and can appreciate rather than make enemies
with those who’re genuinely trying to enjoin goodness and forbid you from
badness.
Thank God for invariably asking for forgiveness
and for doing your best to compensate your wrongs with rights. And thank God if you’re trying not to repeat
the sins you repented. But even if you do some of them for a second time, thank
God that you’ve a Merciful God and pray that you’re able to renounce those that
may incur His wrath and anger before it is too late.
